Dollar Rises as Trade Tensions Ease; Gold Tests $4,000 Support While Oil Surges on Russia Sanctions

2025年10月23号

The U.S. dollar steadied near recent highs as global trade tensions eased, while gold corrected toward $4,000 amid reduced safe-haven demand.

Market Overview

The U.S. dollar edged higher on Wednesday as easing concerns over global trade and potential diplomatic progress between Russia and Ukraine lifted market sentiment. The U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) briefly surpassed the 99 mark before settling 0.08% lower at 98.89, marking a weekly low. U.S. Treasury yields remained subdued, with the 10-year yield at 3.951% and the 2-year at 3.451%, signaling persistent expectations of upcoming Federal Reserve rate cuts.

Gold prices declined sharply, testing the key $4,000 per ounce support after risk appetite improved. The metal dipped nearly 3% intraday to $4,004.46 before rebounding to close at $4,098.29. Investors viewed the pullback as a correction within a long-term bullish trend, especially amid the ongoing U.S. government shutdown and postponed Trump–Putin meeting.

In contrast, oil markets surged as geopolitical risk returned. Following new U.S. sanctions on two major Russian oil firms, WTI crude jumped 3.13% to $59.37 per barrel, while Brent rallied 4.33% to $64.36.

Technical Highlights

USD/JPY – Holds Firm Below 153.00

USD/JPY remains bullish above 150.00, consolidating near 153.00 resistance as traders assess potential Fed rate cuts and Japan’s intervention threats. A breakout above 153.00 could extend gains toward 155.10, while a drop below 147.00 may trigger correction toward 146.50.

GBP/JPY – Consolidates Below 204.50

The pair stabilizes below 204.50 after inflation-led volatility in the UK. Despite soft inflation, GBP/JPY remains supported above 200.00. A break above 204.50 could target 207.60, while failure to hold above 201.80 risks renewed weakness.

USOIL – Faces Resistance at $60.70

WTI crude remains under selling pressure near $59. Despite recovery attempts, broader sentiment stays bearish. Resistance lies at $60.70, with key support levels at $57.20 and $53.70.
